This war has moved way beyond Bin Laden. While it's true that he is the top prize in the war on terror, their are literally thousands of Islamic terrorist that pose more of a direct threat then Bin Laden ever could. Even if Bin Laden was dead, this war could not end until the threat that is islamo-fascism is contained, if not completely eliminated.

Maybe there's oil over there?
I think that s also because US needs to stay in Pakistan for a while. Pakistan is the last ally (?) you have there. So they justify their presence in Pakistan with their "freedom mission" in Afghanistan. I understand that in a few months, US will probably developp a new soft isolationism. I don t know if I m right, but there could be a risk with the situation in Cashmere, which could become really problematic... Also, Us needs to stay because afghanistan is between Iran and Russia...
I don t know if Bin ladin's dead, but talibans are coming back in Aghanistan, and terrorists groups are apparently still training there at the border of Pakistan.
Situation is so complicated now.
May GWB had never existed.

He's not dead yet. He keeps carefully releasing audio recorded statements that the C.I.A. believes are genuine (not fakes) and recent.
He is most likely receiving sanctuary in Pakistan in the mountainous region bordering Afghanistan. The tribal people there are called Pashtoons and they don't recognize any border ... they come and go as they please. The U.S. is retricted from going in there and searching for bin Laden and the tribesmen kick the Pakistani Army's *** everytime they make a feable go at hunting down bin Laden there.

ok so i am all for the troops coming home ......... god knows i miss the heck out of my hubby.... HOWEVER!!!!! BIN LADEN is not dead..... if he was the video tape that was released in july couldnt have been... and if you were as up to date on your news as you would apparently would like to think then you would know that the tape had several references to current events that were going on in the world near the release of the tape.... therefore to answer the question they are "wandering aroung afganistan " as you say to be sure and defend people like you and the freedom that you enjoy... and to make sure the insurgents dont come here....

Well, I can tell you why we are still there because I myself "wandered" around Afghanistan for 4 months. It's because of the Taliban and the threat they pose to the people living in the country and all over the world.

We don't want to leave!
There's work to do. There's an Army to train, people to help, a government to help develop, there's also an intractible enemy there that if allowed to rest and consolidate would set about destroying everything we've helped the Afghans to do so far.
Think of it as protecting the investment to date.
Bin Laden is immaterial but he IS on the FBI list. (link below)

Afeasf A: The FBI calls him Usama Bin Laden, google it.
How do YOU know Bin Laden is dead, do you have his cold dead body sitting at your feet? I'm conservative, and I don't trust Fox to have the most reliable info.

There has never been conclusive evidence of Bin Laden's death, besides the Taliban is still very strong in Afghanistan and they are more of a threat than Bin Laden is, that is why we are over there.
Instead of complaining why don't you try supporting our men and women in uniform who protect the freedom of idiots who criticize their country!?

Even if he was dead, we didn't send troops to Afghanistan to serve a warrant, we sent them to capture or kill ALL the members of the terrorist organisation that attacked America and to liberate the Afghani people from the Taliban government who supported the terrorists.

because Afganastan boarders Iran and is strategic in surrounding Iran and the rest of the middle east oil supply with military bases.
Theres also oil in the caspian sea, and we want to be there to keep China from getting it.
The true threat to American hegemony over the world is China, and we are attempting to make sure we control the worlds natural resourses, primarily energy resourses.
