I see small black gritty things in my dogs fur, and my borhter swears that they are flea eggs. Since out dog is an outdoor dogs, and I assume flea eggs would be miscrscopic, AND the dog is wearing a flea collar....Im assuming its nothin more than dirt...but would just like to make sure.

It's flea dirt (poo). Little black specks right, that feel kind of gritty? Some are sort of comma shaped?

Flea eggs are indeed microscopic. Your dog has fleas - the collar on him will not be doing anything. Flea collars only ward fleas away from the neck area, they are quite useless. Please get a proper flea treatment from a vets - Frontline, Advantage or Revolution. Don't use pet store products, including collars, shampoos, powders and 'bombs' because they don't work.

flea eggs usually fall off of the dog and hatch in your carpet and yard.

The black gritty things you are seeing could be flea dirt - the nice word for flea poo.

If you take some of that black stuff and add a little water, it will turn reddish from the blood that the fleas ingest. That's how you can tell flea dirt to regular old plain dirt.

Flea collars are not 100% effective.

The black specks you see arent flea eggs. Flea eggs are white or opaque clear. The black specks are either flea feces or dirt. Your best bet honestly and it works the best on fleas is Frontline plus. Ditch the flea collar. I used to own a dog grooming shop and i would take flea collars off dogs to discover the fleas running out from underneath the collar. The collar is a waste of time. Buy frontline

most flea eggs are too small to be seen with the naked eye. it could be dirt, it could be a skin condition, or you could have bionic super eyes.

either way you should take you dog to the vet just to be sure. fleas can get out of control very fast. also, flea collars don't work too well. i suggest switching to Frontline Plus. (ask your vet about it) Frontline is applied to the back of an animal's neck once a month where it sinks into their fat layer and speads over their body under the skin. it kills and prevents fleas and ticks all month.

Your brother is right. Flea eggs look like tiny pieces of dirt. Dip the dog, get a new collar and start using Frontline Plus.
Spray the yard also. Otherwise, they will come back. Spraying the yard and having the dog dipped should be done on the same day. A groomer will dip the dog and you can spray the yard or Walmart carries a product called Eliminator and it works very well.
Good luck.

They are probably flea eggs. My dog recently had fleas and there were brown specs which were the eggs. You also may see the fleas crawling around them. Usually they are very visible in the groin.
