2 reasons:

1) The Jews were the ones who had been faithful or semifaithful to God since creation. While the rest of the world had wandered away.

2) To help our faith.
Consider
There is no reason (except divine intervention) the Jews should have even survived until the time of Christ.
If Jesus had been a Ceasar, it would have been easy to see how his message spread.
However, Jesus' message spread through 12 illiterate disciples and a handful of followers, who were also uneducated. Not only did it spread, but it completely took over. Why? There is no earthly reason it should have.
This guy dies on a cross (think electric chair) and that makes him a hero? We know it's true because an illiterate fisherman said so?
Only supernatural power could have propelled it at that speed in that medium.

500 years before Jesus was born in Israel, a 30 year old Chinese guy named Confucian founded his own philosophy Confucianism and his own school called 大学 to spread his philosophy. Guess what? Most of the teachings in the NT can be found in Confucianism. Most of Confucianist teachings can be found in Chritianity. I don't believe it was a coincidence. God very likely inspired Mr. Confucian when that young man was very likely very confused about his career development after he lost his well paid government logistics job at a warehouse where he read many very good and expensive books. In China then, warehouses and libraries were often the same thing, so warehouse keepers soon became learned and got rich quite quick. Holy smoke.

I always wonder this myself. Why didn't he appear in Africa, India, or Japan? Are we to say these people are stupider than us and that their religion is nonsense? That is a very good question.

you might ask God...i'm sure no one here was privy to His plans...

but when you think of it...he started with the humble and now presidents and kings know His name and His power...entire nations recognize Him...

not bad for such humble beginnings...
