My 3 yr old son was given a trial for a cough and fluid in the ears that will not go away after 2 doses of antibiotics. The singulair seems to get rid of the cough, but the past few days he has become a holy terror!!! He wil not sit still and he is talking a mile a min switching subjects too fast for me to even answer a question. This is not like him and it goes away in the am, then returns an hour or so after he takes it. I may need a switch anyone have this experience, and was there something you switched to that did not cause this incresed activity?

Yes it does cause this in some children. My son was on it for his asthma and while it did nothing for his asthma it sure changed his personality. He was taken off of it and the symptoms went away. He was switched to an inhaler, you will need to discuss substitute meds. with your ped.

Singulair is an asthma preventative I havn't hears of it being used for a cold treatment. My daughter does not hype up on it but I looked and there is no paper inside for side effects so googled it.
I was right it is for preventing asthma so it might be worth going back to the doctor and find out if this is what he is treating. It will NOT help the fluid in the ears. I did not see anything about hyperactivity as a side effect but it is on page 3. Hope this helps

Has anyone s child experienced hyperactivity with singuair but stuck with it anyway to see if it goes away?

My 7 1/2 year old son started singulair in the morning 2 days ago for severe allergies/asthma. The hyperactivity started immediately (his teacher informed me) and continued throughout the day after school as well. This has happened to him a couple of times with Benadryl, but not every time he has taken it. I m hoping that after being on it for a while his body will get used to it and the side effect will lessen.
My daughter, now 15, took singulair between the ages of 9-11. I had to take her off of it because it was causing night terrors and sleep walking, she would come to my bed almost every night and I caught her trying to open the front door one night. She did not have asthma, just sever allergies. It worked great for the allergies but after the sleepwalking we switched to a prescription nasal spray and other OTC medications.
I informed my sons allergy doctor of my daughters side effects so he recommended my son to take the med in the morning.
My daughter never had the hyperactivity with Singulair.
My sons allergy test indicated that he is allergic to dust/dust mites, and a list of different types of trees (including oak trees, which are everywhere around us). He was missing a lot of school before I finally figured out it was allergies causing all of his symptoms - his primary pediatrician kept treating him with antibiotics and he never fully recovered.
I m really hoping the regimen his allergy/immunology specialist ends up working and the side affect doesn t last.

My 7yo son took singulair every night last winter. It worked wonders for his respiratory health during the cold & flu season (every cold he gets seems to settle in his chest for weeks without it). And, he had no behavior change at all.

You should talk to your pediatrician about this.

Don't know, but we had the same thing happen on Benedryl. Talk to your doctor as he will probably want to change his medication.
