I'm not sure I understand your question but I'll give it a shot. When I think of jello fish, I think of the dessert jello being put in a mold in the shape of a fish, the jello firming up and then you flip it out of the mold and bingo - you have a jello fish.

A jelly fish, on the other hand, is a sea animal. It is a "hood" that the animals attach to for mobility. There are thousands of the little animals on the tenticles that hang down from the main hood. If you touch them, you get stung with a poison that is used to render fish unconscious so the little animals can eat it.

When I searched Google for jello fish, it told me how to make a dessert using a fish bowl, pouring jello into the bowl and adding the gummy fish (like gummy bears only fish) to the jello when it was starting to set so the fish would be in the middle.

Now, if I didn't answer your question, I'm sorry. Gave it a shot.

When an English speaker says Jello-Fish, they are referring to a candy that is called Jello-fish. Or Gummy-fish. Or as the first person clarified... a sweet dessert made from Jello, a gelatin, sugar and flavoring product.

When an English speaker says Jellyfish, they are referring to the ocean creature by that name.

If the pronunciation is unclear, then I imagine they could be easily confused.
