Leaders of the Protestant Reformation also railed against the sun-centered concept. They included Martin Luther (1483-1546), Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560), and John Calvin (1509-64). Luther said of Copernicus: “This fool wishes to reverse the entire science of astronomy.”

It certainly sounds like Martin Luther who by the way was not a theologian but a Professor of Bible by profession. Few people born in the Middle Ages saw ahead to a future in which so many things were to be turned upside down. Can you name any?

Martin Luther. But, I think he was speaking of Galileo teaching Copernicus' theory.
I may be mistaken about the occasion. But, it was definitely Martin Luther.
Edit. My mistake. Galileo was not born until after Luther's passing.

Interesting quote. But if i remember correctly the church was advocating the geocentric model of planetary motion at the time, and Copernicus was fighting the idea......
