will that be a good basis on buying a car? or is it worth it to extend your warranty?

As far as the warranty, if it still has the original factory warranty available, you will get the remainder starting from the ISD . Many 5 years warranties will be power-train and will only cover specific engine components as well as transmission and drive-train.

If you want to extend the factory warranty, you may do so at anytime as long as the car is still covered by the original bumper-to-bumper warranty. Again, you will need the vehicles ISD to know how much time you have.

To find and ISD, get the VIN of the car you are interested in purchasing and have the service department and ask them what the 'In Service Date' is. They can also tell you what warranties are still available.

If you buy new, then the only time you will need to know an ISD is if you are buying a Demo or Program car. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Sister, there are other limitations to the 5 year warranty. Like mileage. The contracts usually state 5 years and 50,000, or 100,000 miles. So if you go over the mileage it won't be under warranty any more. I never buy warranties. The item no matter if it's a TV, computer, or car is new. It usually doesn't break withing a couple of years. The warranty is just another way the company can make more money from you. All in all just take the standard and don't let them talk you into buying more. The money you save on extended warranties you can put into fixing anything that happens to break.

Usually a warranty of five years is for the powertrain or in layman's terms, guts of the car. You usually get at least a year or two of bumper to bumper coverage. Each car company does their warranty's a bit differently so check out the small print on the brand you're looking to purchase.

Extended warranties can be nice, but I'd recommend shopping for your own. The one's they sell at the dealers have heavy incentives for the sales people and are thus, usually more expensive.

Definitely get the extended warranty if it is an American car, i have bought 2 GM products and did`nt get the extended warranty and payed for it big in the long run, for some reason gm cars start to disassemble them self`s after 20 thousand miles.

Read it, every single word. Not all warranties are the same.

Extended warranties are rarely worth the cost.

I need to know what kind of car. I also need to know the mileage limitation. If I know these two things I can give you a pretty good idea of what the actual coverage is.

Car sales 30 Years.

VERY GOOD QUESTION....................

YOU WILL NEED TO READ THE COMPLETE CONTRACT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF WHAT IT COVERS.

SOME COVER JUST THE DRIVE-TRAIN AND NO MORE.

SOME COVER YOU BUMPER TO BUMPER.

ALSO SOME HAVE A HIGH DEDUCTIBLE.
