I sepertaed from the Army about a year ago and I just found out, from another recentlcy seperated Veteran , that they mail you the certificate (and a flag I believe), that they are suppose to mail it to you.Does anyone know who I can contact in order to get the certificate?
Also that they is a website that you can go to get all of your ribbions (with your name on them) mailed to you, but he cannot remember the site.Does anyone know that site?
Please Help!! I have "Honorable Discharge" on my DD214 , but I would be more than Honored to have a certificate, from the Army ,on my wall.

(1) You can request statements as to the type of discharge you were given... not the certificates... from http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html
You might be able to contact the Army Department of Personnel... or whatever they call it. The Navy used to call it Bureau of Personnel... now it's called Navy Personnel Command. You can find them (they'll have a toll-free phone number on the official Army Web site. Try www.army.mil
You can also request a copy of your DD-214. I cannot vouch for the flag. I retired and wasn't given one... but that was Navy.
(2) Once you get your DD-214. you will have a list of the ribbons to which you entitled. You can order them from

To my knowledge you cannot get copies of the citations that accompanied the ribbons/medals.

Congratulations on your service and discharge! I was in the Army myself for 8 years. 4 yrs as an Attack Helicopter Mechanic on the AH-1G Cobras and the other 4 years as a Computer programmer/Systems Analyst. When I left the military they did mail my final Honorable Discarge. (I received (3) while I was in.) I didn't receive a flag, however, that certainly would have been nice. But as far as your ribbons. Your DD214 will be your guide to everything you earned. I'm not quite sure where you can buy them, but if you need help referencing which types you have this site is awesome! Take care and God Bless!

Your DD Form 256A or Honorable Discharge Certificate should have been mailed to you home address on record at time of you discharge.. As a former personnel specialist don t feel badly cause I never got mine either.

lol thats funny, your dd214 is your only official document that states wether you were honorably or dishonorably discharged. there is no certificate mailed to you , you can pay some 3d party printer to print something up that is impressive to frame but thats it your dd214 (the long form) is your bread and butter on your entire enlistment
and for the ribbons, badges and medals thing i have seen site where they say we will make up a personal tribute to you all they need is a copy, real or photo copied dd214 to verify that you actually recieved the awards, citation, rank, duty station, and deployments that you claim but i wouldnt trust you or your ranking officer with my dd214 ( get where i am going?) so another thing they are costly as hell, i have every ribbon, badge, certificate, and achievement award i recieved while on duty i could frame it myself, besides my blood sweat and tears wouldnt allow me to misplace any of that . In all honesty i have not seen anyone recieve anything from USAREC after seperation but i think what your talking about might be an appreciation certificate but you dont get that until your entire obligation is fullfiled meaning 4 years on 4 years inactive after the 8 you get the thank you certificate. hope that helps

When your complete length of service obligation is up this includes any reserve time you are required to serve is completed they (your branch of service) should mail you a Certificate suitable for framing. Safeguard that as I lost mine due to losing my home to hurricanes and have not been able to get it replaced! It will state Honorable Discharge with date. SAFE GUARD IT

It scares me that you were entrusted with a loaded weapon Specialist.
When 8 years have past from your initial entrance you will be Discharged. Keep St Louis up to date on any moves. Until then you are in the IRR or maybe the Florida Guard. Been that way since Dino's roamed the earth in the 50's. You are subject to the UCMJ as well. So behave.
The way you make Sgt. (based on another question you have asked) is to demonstrate an ability to do your job proficiently and be able to think on your own and act in a military manner. Does posting a question like this demonstrate any of that???
Had you been junior to me you would be an E4 for a long time!
In regards to medals. Did you do a John Kerry and toss them?? They do not take them away so where are they?
In short you have a lot of work in order to earn the rank of Sgt. if that is what you want.

Yes , you will be issued an Honorable Dischage certificate, DD [Dept. of Defense] Form 256A. You get it when you service obligation is over, and not before.

The DD214 is all I ever got. Oh, I got a certificate signed by Bill Clinton thanking me for my service in the Cold War.
