It is pretty awful...I had a dog with that problem and it was terrible. We had to take him to the groomers to have the sacs squeezed out a few times a month or he was in terrible pain. The vet never suggested any other treatment. But I feel for you. That is an unbelievably bad smell.

Some dogs have "stuff" fill up there anal glands and they need to be taken to the vet. The vet has the wonderful job of draining the anal glands. I don't think diet is especially a concern. It just seems to happen sometimes. Ones they are drained the dog should be okay for a long time and may not have a problem again. Ask the vet if you have other questions.

Hi. If expressing the glands doesn't provide relief then I would strongly advise visiting your vet and ask to have the glands removed. It's a relatively straightforward operation. If the glands block, then they can burst and cause the death of your pet. By the way, if they every appear swollen and feel hot, pack ice around them and get to the nearest vet a.s.a.p.

Take him to the vet regularly. He also might have a problem. There is no prevention or treatment, just cleaning it out.
