Islam has been the dominant religion in Persian (Iran) since about 700 AD.

Shiah Islam is the most common form of Islam in Iran.

There are also Sunnis (the majority sect of Islam) Sufis (a mystical branch of Islam), Zoroastrians (an ancient religion that began in Persia before Christianity), Christians, Jews and Baha'is.

The Baha'i Faith began in Iran in the 1800s; Iranian Baha'is are subject to persecution and many leave Iran if they are able to.

Persian is an ethnicity.

Muslims practice a faith.

Some Persians are Muslims, but not all Muslims are Persians.

The same is true with Arabs.

Majority in Persia are Shia Muslims. And they are less than 20% of world Muslim population. The difference between Shai and Sunni is not of religion. It is more of politics. They believe Ali being the husband of Mohammad's daughter should have been the successor of Prophet Mohammad. But majority members of Advisory Counsel of Prophet elected the senior companions of Prophet and best men in case of first three successors. After the death of 3rd sunccessor Othman people elected Ali. For last 1400 years Shias are still mad at all Sunnis for that. They cut off from Sunnis and have their separate Mosques every where. But well educated Shias some times pray in the mosques of Shias also.

"Persian" describes an ethnic group, whereas "muslim" describes a religion.

You're question is a lot like asking, "are Americans Christians?:"

Generalizations, while somewhat useful in a few circumstances, can get you in a lot of trouble most of the time.

Via the Taliban? ROFLMAO! The Taliban was created by the CIA!

They are Shia muslims who hate the Taliban and Iranian soldiers helped the U.S. fight the Taliban in Afghanistan.
