If you take a glance at history, the bloody battles and the way tribes invaded and each others' territory, the horrible way in which they murdered one another...then, shoudn't we actually say that society has really improved? an overwhelming majority is now civilised- we have laws etc. So, aren't people being misled into believing that the world is becoming increasingly dangerous etc?

Maybe a mercenary plutocratic predatory few preys upon the many of our global culture by both offering protection from terror to the many in exchange for gold and by creating a demand for protective services by terrorizing the many of our global culture. Thereby maybe a mercenary plutocratic predatory few extort gold from the many in a global shakedown of epic proportions that some call the war on terror. In terror maybe the many are induced by the beast of a military industrial complex to buy the latest technology at this year's arms show. Maybe as the beast of a military industrial complex becomes ever more powerful the living conditions of the many will deteriorate to the point were many are living in abject poverty in a desolate war zone where disease is run rampant, and famine is a fact of every day life. Communities of faithful believers may come to wish for this final war some call Armageddon because some conservative ideological authorities promise the following: Before Armageddon, the good one will rapture or transport living members of communities of faithful believers to Heaven; and after Armageddon, the good one will reward those who are faithful, loyal and true by resurrecting dead members of communities of faithful believers; judging members good; giving members bodies with perfect form and function; and allowing members admission to a place of divine eternal bliss some call Heaven. As a result communities of faithful believers tend to be quite willing to go to war. The result being that these aggressive ideological traditions produce conservative ideological authorities who act as both intolerant, fanatical terrorists bent on fighting evil and racist, heterofascist, warmongers attacking those states deemed to be sponsors of terrorism. These developments are all to the liking of a mercenary plutocratic predatory few who profit from the sale and manufacture of the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex and rule an underworld of cities and bunkers designed to withstand a catastrophe on the scale of a super volcano eruption or global nuclear war. Who wins in a race to Armageddon? Do the many win or the few? Will the few win in a race to Armageddon by taking refuge in an underworld and by awaiting an opportunity to bloom as a seed of the next over world? Will the many lose in a race to Armageddon like lemmings whose breeding cycle has run it's course?

Hello,

One should remember two things;

1) The worlds population has tripled since I was born in the 50's and quadrupled since 1900 so there are perhaps more villains on the stage.

2) In many ways though some things are getting much better whilst other things are getting worse.
The family unit in western society seems weaker and less cohesive but again, civil rights has come a long way. My parents would be rolling in their graves about single sex unions but then again the likes of Tiger Woods would have been allowed on most golf courses only as a caddy. Nuclear weapons have prevented possibly World War III a generation back and if we could bring back General Gordon of Khartoum of the late 19th century who was surrounded by the Mahdi's army and eventually had his his impaled on a pole, he would not be too shocked by internet beheadings today.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

Society has improved, people live longer and are less likely to die at all ages today than ever and are also less likely to die from violence (back in the caveman days violence was a very common dispute resolution method (although being about the only one around)) and with less wars occurring now than at any time in history and a lower proportion of the population dying during last centuries wars then the proportion of the population of hunter-gatherers that die during war.

We're also a lot more comfortable then any previous generation and things are getting better.

We still have problems to solve but we have the technology to solve them so we should manage. Religion is also on the way out so that should remove one of the biggest obstacles to progress.

Not when you consider the two world wars and the other wars that have occurred in the last 100 years. And not when you consider the rise in violent crime that has taken place in the United States right around the time that they took prayer and the Bible out of schools and started teaching a godless doctrine of secular humanism where a person is the result of cosmic chance with no greater worth than a dog or a rat in the eternal scheme of things.

You are right that now human society has developed some civic sense in world and people are not murdering like they used to long time ago. Humans are settled in cities and have developed the system of law enforcement system as detterant which is helping. Also educated people think about consequences before committing crimes where uneducated can not think that much that much in advance. To them being macho is one way of gaining some respect in their society.

But on the other hand sexual crimes have increased a lot and people don't feel shame if their daughters are going out with boys and having sex. In this area human society has been degraded worst than animals.

In addition to what a couple of others have said, it also APPEARS worse on the surface now because information travels so much faster, and because we are not able to SEE and HEAR about the bad stuff that happens much easier and faster than they did back in the days before media and internet. There was always horrible stuff happening, always (probably) will be. And it does no good to listen to people that harp on how many people died violently this year as opposed to 200 years ago. There are more PEOPLE now, so you need to check your facts using realistic measures such as percentages rather than actual numbers.

The world will end before world peace will ever be accomplished, but is it deteriorating? No, I think you are very right. We have changed the world for the better, but the more things change the more they stay the same. Life will always be what it is, as it was from the beginning and forever shall be world without end. Amen. lol

Society has gone to hell in a hand basket, and people have taken leave of their senses, because we do live in a vary violent world and don't kid your self it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better, man is angry and disillusioned at the lies and the corruption in today's world, the fuse is lit and a real big bomb is about to go off, and God help us all when that happens.

It is currently getting worse and will get much worse as the oil runs out. This planet can support 8 billion with oil but only 2 billion without it. The other 6 billion have to die in the next 50 years.
