My vet has told me my dog has a slipped disc but didn't take an xray. He told me to keep him caged for two weeks then to start physio. But i'm wondering if thats what it is. His back end has gone completely but he can hardly use his front legs and is curling his front paws in. He also seems off balance when he's laying down and just moving his head. He's on painkillers so hopefully not too uncomfortable but i'm very worried. By the way he's a Jack Russell cross with allsorts. Does this sound like a slipped disc or something else??

I would seek a second opinion, as with people, sometimes the first answer isn't always the best . If this is what this problem is sometimes rest helps and sometimes it doesn't. Some x-rays don't show you swelling in the vertebral regions like they should. Some specialists can perform adequate tests, like myelograms and such to better diagnose these conditions and recommend surgery before it is too late. Good luck

Take him to another vet. A slipped disc need to be put back in place. Did he work on his back? to adjust the discs??
I know you can feel where the bones are with your hands, but you can't see the spinal damage with your hands. You need ex-rays to evaluate the severity. Find another vet. If cost is a problem, call your local ASPCA some of them have very good low cost clinics. You are going to end up with more damage

when my mother-in-law's miniature dachshund had a slipped disc, she could barely walk. she dragged one foot and kept the other up, didn't put pressure on it at all. when you touched her foot, in the middle of the bottom, she squealed. they said the disc had compressed a nerve. after a couple of weeks of keeping her from jumping (which was not easy since they don't keep her in a cage of any kind) she started getting better.

My dog was like that too. Ended up he had intervertabral disc disease. The vet offered physio too but we didn't go 4 that.
I caged him for about 3 weeks, carried him outside to go to the bathroom, and fed him in his cage.

The one thing that cured him was a prescription of prednisone from the Vet. It was a miracle drug and saved his life. I hope you can get a script of prednisone for your dog too . Give your little one a hug for me !

I'd get a second opinion. Sounds like the problem is neurological to me.

Well try taking him to another veterinarian and requesting an x-ray or u can just go back to the same one and just say "i would feel more comfortable if you took an x-ray" otherwise, you should probably just trust the vet.
