Hi Makenna,

PowerPoint and Keynote are both Macintosh applications. Microsoft has ported PowerPoint from the Mac to the PC so the Mac application can run in Windows.

Keynote and PowerPoint are both "presentation" applications. Both can animate text and other objects such as pictures, movies, graphs, and spreadsheets placed into "slide shows."

Keynote is simpler to use but has a smaller feature set. PowerPoint is robust and supports add-ins because it is completely programmable. Keynote has limited programming capabilities.

Both programs can read and write the PowerPoint file format, but Keynote won't support every PowerPoint command exactly, so presentations made in PowerPoint may look somewhat changed in Keynote and vice-versa. You'd have to try each presentation to see what happens when they are exchanged.

Powerpoint is an application created by Microsoft used for presentations and slideshows. Therefore it is used on PC computers. Keynote is an application created by Apple and is used for presentations and slideshows as well. They are completely compatible together, which means any Powerpoint files from a PC will be able to work perfectly fine on a Mac and will run under Keynote and vice versa. So to answer your question yes they do the same types of things and they can understand each other, even though one is from a Mac and one is from a PC
