One of my ancestors came from Austria through Ellis Island in 1858, another in the 1840s... yet another came with the pilgrims at Plymouth Rock. My grandfather did a detailed genealogy history of the family in 1919-1923 and updated it in the 1950 and 60s.
I feel fortunate to have so many tid bits of their lives.
A multi great grandmother born 1856 sat on Abe Lincolns knee
during the 1860 campaign and later she was among the first settlers in Kansas in 1877 moving into a sod house with a one year old son... cooked for cowboys and other adventures.
they settled in Topeka and had a farm on the south side of town from 1880-1932... there is a street there named after Great Great granddad...

My Mother and sister came thru Ellis Island after WW2. My sister had suffered from measles on the trip over from London and still had some rash showing. They sent them back to the ship. They then sent a doctor to examine my sister. He cleared her and the next day they were allowed to enter the United States. Mom and Dad were married for 50 years when my father died. They raised 15 kids and did it with hard work and alot of love.

My grandfather & grandmother immigrated to the US from Poland, legally, in 1903. They are both listed on the commemorative wall there.
They were extremely proud the day they became US citizens.
In memory of Grandma and Grandpa.
This ones for you.
God Bless the USA!

It was a nice tour. We were there about 2 hours, but we wanted to get on and see the jugglers in Battery Park again!
