Do all I need is a ethernet cable that can connect to my ps3?

No, you need a wireless router, modem and of coarse an internet service. You can use ethernet for a more reliable signal, but wireless will do just fine

Ya and connect it to your modem/router you can also use the ps3 wi-fi connection/feature.
