Wash his face and use some eye wash (like you would do with contact lenss) See if it come off. It could be a scratch on the lense if it doesn't wash out. To the vets, It is painful if it is a scratch. Dog will not complain so they don't tell you it hurts.

If his lens was torn, you'd know it. Dogs have an internal eyelid that comes down when the eye is injured. Sometimes I think I see a hair in my dog's eye and she doesn't seem to mind at all. Does it move around when he blinks?

A hair, like a human hair, could be what you are looking like. Try to flush it, and if you don't succeed, take the dog to the vet.

One good natural solution is called Estivin. That's what I use to flush eyes. You can also try to flush with clear water.

Take him to the vet. It could be anything. It might be something simple like a bit of dust or something or conjunctiva. The vet will be able to tell you better. You don't want to fool around with your dog's sight.

the most important thing is ... do not fuss or do anything to his eyes .. you would need a vet for that
