I dream over and over again, that I am on a narrow road, surround by water, and I am pressing as hard as I can, but my brakes won't work. The car will eventually stop, but usually after I put a foot out the door to slow down the car.

I think that you pushing on the breaks without them working represents a situation/person/relationship in your life which makes you feel helpless. You may try to control it, but it's too far out of your reach. Your foot stopping may foretell your future control of this part of your life, but it may take awhile and you may have to risk getting emotions involved.

it means your life in getting out of control and harder to stop it
from getting worse. Get a grip!
