Why when Americans doing a report or a documentary they report about the worst part of the countries. They show the poverty stricken neighborhoods and communities. They show the negatives sides. On the other hand they dont show where the upper middle class and the rich lives. or the positives aspects of the country. I hate that.

Does America do that to feel better about themselves? Maybe

Catfight ... it has nothing to do with making us feel better about ourselves. If that were true than our biased media would show footage that supported our own American soldiers in Iraq ... and not just the negative cr*p they choose to show with their liberal agenda. The problem is the media has gotten people "hooked" on the negative rather than the positive. It's not for our sake ... it's for theirs. It's like a drug unfortunately and they know it will make them a LOT of money so they play it up and completely exaggerate bad news - not just in other countries - but in our very own. They try and turn us against each other sadly.

Please don't jump on the "Hate America" band wagon. You can't judge the many on the voices of a few. I can tell you that many many Americans are choosing to no longer watch the news or T.V. for this very reason. They are tired of the negative junk and of Americans being portrayed so negatively. This country is full of wonderful loving, and very giving people. Whenever another country is in trouble we ALWAYS give the most support and are the first to do it. Most of that money comes from the pockets of the American people who are more than willing to help their neighbors - wherever they may be. We give more per capita to non-profit organizations that help victims in other countries than any other country in the world.

If you don't like what you see on T.V. then DON"T watch it. When you do you are only supporting what it is you are claiming to hate. As long as people continue to watch stuff like that on the news .. they will continue to show it. It makes them lots of money and money is all they care about. If you really want to change what you are seeing ... go out and make a difference rather than just bad mouthing a whole group of people who feel the same as you many times.

Peace to you ...

I think there are a lot of different aspects to your question & many answers.

Partly, it depends on the topic of the documentary.

But many times, I think they like to show the American public poverty levels in other parts of the world as an educational tool. Most Americans are very naive about this planet, they only see what is around them - go to their jobs, come home, eat, watch tv, ad nauseaum. When they go on vacation, they go to Disneyland. They assume everyone in the world is the same. The people next door to me are exactly like this & typify middle class Americans.

I have long believed that it should be a mandated part of the high school curriculum for every 16 year old to spend at least 3 months doing Peace Corps type work in a less fortunate country than ours. How would we pay for this? Well, some of that $4 billion we give to Israel every year ought to help. (Not anti-Israeli, just don't believe a country that is more advanced than ours in many respects needs that type of aid.)

Good question.
Good luck !

I know they are some poverty stricken areas in Alabama and Tennessee in which I cant believe is a part of America but yet they dont show that. I was driving through Manhattan last week and I could not believe that some part of it is in terrible condition.

I think our media does that so that some in this country feel better about themselves and how they are doing in life. It is ironic that they show bad conditions in other countries but not as much about many living in the same conditions in this country. For example, things about the city of Detroit show all the progress but nothing about the over 2,000 living in homeless shelters or even under bridges or in abandoned homes.

well if they were doing a documentary about mexico, its probably because the entire country is filthy and poverty stricken. They were probably showing were the upper middle class lives but to you it looked like the ghetto.

not all the time i think you are generalizing
i just saw a interesting program on the dubia islands being built it was very interesting and not negative in my opinion
its always a bad idea to give a blanketing statement as in
"they dont show where the upper middle class...."
very few things in life are so encompassing to include everything or everybody
always some exceptions
try to look for the good makes life so much better
good luck and peace

Americans like to report things that will shock the viewing audience. There is nothing socking about people living well - Americans can relate to living well. Why do people all around the world stop to look at car crashes or other accidents? Why do people stare at other people who are physically different? It's human nature, not just common to American culture.

So do almost all the major television services in the world. They do that to the United States, the Middle East, Europe, Asia... everywhere.

Becuase postive things don't sell in the media. Which is why all you see and hear about is all the bad stuff. One shouldn't even believe too much of what the media tells them anyway as it's very bias.
