Yes, I have had that happen to me. One time, my mom was telling me something I didn't really care to hear and I told her to shut up. I knew I shouldn't have said that, so I tried to get to my room and slam the door. I slammed it right when she got there and that was the last straw. She pulled me to her and put soap in my mouth. In front of my best friend, too. Then my little sister copied me to see what would happen to her and it was pretty much the same thing. Taught me a pretty good lesson though.

Yes, I had my mouth washed out with bar soap a number of times for using bad language...but back then it was hell or damn, not what you used. For using that word, your mother probably felt justified for doing what she did. But at your age, that is a rather childish method of disciplining.
If you were doing all you were able to do in that class, and a D is what you got even for working your best, then the punishment was not justified. But if you are goofing off, and the D is justified for your lack of attention or getting better grades, then discipline was necessary. I would have grounded you and forced some study time each and every day.

(teehee) At least you had the liquid stuff that went down quickly!!
I had a bar of soap shoved into my mouth. the gross part was that when she shoved it in my mouth some of the soap was shaved off from my teeth. by the time she took it out the soap dried and got a little harder. It was basically stuck there for two weeks. it wasn't good tasting soap either! (lol)

I used to a lot when I was little, for things like back talking my parents or telling my siblings to 'shut up' or calling others names.
I'm not like, traumatized by that, and it actually worked pretty well!
