During the years of The Plague in Europe, Doctors wore strange looking masks..long and 'beak' shaped...making them look like strange birds....hence quack quack!!

Because, during the black death/the great plague (whatever you want to call it!), doctors went around in beak shaped masks, which led to ducks, then to quacks.

They used quick silver in medicine. Most of them did not live for long in their profession.
