I bet a million people ask this, but here goes one more time:

Is the f/1.4 worth three times the price of the f/1.8? Does the extra stop make a difference in the end result?

If you are into low light conditions or you want to try shallow depth of field then f1.4 is very handy. It is a much heavier lump of glass. The image quality of the f1.4 is marginally lower but there isn't much to separate the two of them apart from the wider aperture range.

If I had the money, I would get the 85mm 1.4. It's a really good piece of glass, and the bokeh is amazing. You cannot take a bad picture with that lens. But, if you're on a budget, the 85mm 1.8 should work fine.

If it were my money it would be the f1.4. True, its not much faster than the f1.8 BUT - the image in the viewfinder will be brighter and that can be useful in low light.

Its only "worth it" if its worth it to you. Your opinion is really the only one that matters.
