Changes in weather can increase a person's pain. Like if there is a storm blowing in or a drop in temperature. I can always tell when there is a storm coming in by my increase in pain and fatigue. All I can do when it happens is take more pain medication and stay in bed and know that tomorrow will be a better day.

Has he had his thyroid surgery yet? Is he preparing for his RAI treatment? Usually the medications given to thyroid cancer patients will suppress their TSH. This would mimic symptoms of hyperthyroidism (like feeling hot all the time). If he's not taking his meds (preparing for RAI maybe?) then he will feel very cold. The aching joints is common too when getting very "hypo" along with mental confusion, forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, lethargy, dry skin, etc.

After I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer (papillary) the meds I took to suppress my TSH gave me lots of hyperthyroidism symptoms. I would be hot all the time, jittery, nervous, etc. But when I went off my meds, preparing for RAI, I had the extreme Hypothyroidism symptoms. He can sit in a warm bath...that will warm him up and ease his joint/muscle pain.

good luck. and i hope he feels better soon.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, Tiffany.

Yes, cold might be causing it. Have you tried wrapping a nice warm scarf around his neck, or giving him a turtleneck sweater?

It seems to me that your dad should have some painkillers.

I hope your dad feels much better- fast.
