Those who die in battle go to Valhalla, which is warm and has excellent mead; those who aren't so blessed go to hell where it is very cold and have only goat's urine to drink. Where do people get the idea that hell is hot?

I didn't know of anyone who still followed Norse mythology.
As for those of us who believe the Bible at face value, Jesus Himself said a rich man was tormented in flame--the rich man's own words, see Luke 16; He also said that Hell was a place where the fire is not quenched, see Mark 9; He will tell the unbelievers that they will be cast into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels, Matthew 25:41; and in Revelation 20 we read of the unbelievers being cast into the lake of fire. I haven't seen or felt a fire yet that wasn't hot, so one can only imagine how much worse this is going to be.
But do you really want to take the risk of going there?

Hell is referred to in the Bible as Gehenna at some point. Gehenna is a refuse pile of garbage behind the city that was always burning back in the days of Jesus.
Also Jesus refers to Hell as a place where everything is burning and where the "worm is not quenched" So its a place of fire. Also in Revelations it says that after the trebulation period the devil will be thrown into a "lake of fire"

The God of my understanding is not that cruel to put anyone
in a hell of fire. I think it either a scare tactic to get people's attention. or an extreme metaphor to describe the pain of seperation from God, We can make our own hell on earth be-
ing seperated from God, so in the beyond we can do the same. Say what you will none of us truely know, nor do any of us know God's final judgement, so no one can say (as some
do say) so and so is going to hell.

Yo man, why the hell would we care if hell is hot? It's not like we're taking our bodies with us, or are you telling me souls feel heat? Either way I'm sure we'd get use to it after the first billion years.

I don't know what are the historical origins of Hell being hot. I personally think it's the result of someone's wild imagination.

Christianity was actually a law in the earlier ages. what they actually did was contrast heaven... therefore hell. i personally think it was a means to abolish paganism and introduce christianity since there was no documented form of hell before christianity was introduced and forced. hell was introduced as being the exact opposite of heaven... not pacific and blue but red hot... flaming.... burning. it's not so much as it is hot as it is the opposite of what christianity labels as heaven

Here's some verses for a salty sea dog to consider...
Mark 9:42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were around his neck, and he be cast into the sea.
43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter into life maimed, than to enter having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 44 where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' 45 "And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It would be better for you to enter into life lame, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 46 where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' 47 "And if your eye causes you to stumble, cast it out. It would be better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into the fiery hell, 48 where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'
49 "For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt becomes unsalty, by what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."
