What should i do? I have tried the settings on the ps3. I have reset the ps3 to factory settings and then tried it. I reconnect the cable and it still blinks. The screen blinks repeatedly every 20 to 40 seconds. The cable isn't really a brand. It was $30.00 from Fry's. The TV is a Mitsubishi 57 inch 1080P/i DLP with 3 HDMI 1.3 ports . http://shop4.outpost.com/%7BLksR3kpr1PsW6PFVzp2RpQ**.node3%7D/product/5307998;jsessionid=LksR3kpr1PsW6PFVzp2RpQ**.node3?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

HDMI is touchy to say the least. There is a complex chat going on between your tv and your game machine when you plug in the cable - hotplug connect, i2c data, sdid data, product incryption key data, etc. There are 19 conductors in an HDMI cable. If anything doesn't make it you will have trouble. HDMI is so touchy that if 400pf of capacitance builds up in the wire, it stops communicating.

Usually, when I have a blinking image (or a purple image) it's due to a junk cable. Take that one back to Fry's and try something better. Although Fry's carries some good stuff too, they are known for their willingness to carry garbage at a cheap price. It's hard to know the difference if you're not an expert.

When you get home with your new, better cable, unplug the TV and the PS3 from power, connect the new cable, power up the PS3 then power up the TV. This shouldn't be necessary but it's the extreme test for communication between the source (PS3) and the sink (Mits. TV.)

Although there are plenty of low end components that will cause HDMI trouble, I've never seen a problem with a newer Mits. TV running HDMI 1.3 and I haven't heard of PS3 issues either. I don't know what version of HDMI the Sony is running, but 1.3 is the newest and it's backwards compatible.

Good luck!

Cheap Cables fail, never buy budget cables. Plasma is the only way to go for gaming. Get a 42" 1080p Plasma by Panasonic, its the smallest they make, with a 15.8 GBps or greater transfer rate HDMI cable. Panasonic bought Pioneer's panel technology when they went out of business. Plasmas don't have that screen burn issue any more either. Plasmas have 0.00001ms or something like that pixel response, and true 600hz refresh rate. (600 pictures per second). The problem with 240hz and 120hz tv's is its all picture processing and creates a fair amount of input lag and unnatural movement. LCD's are terrible for gaming, no matter what the refresh rate or pixel response time. If you want a small screen, benefit would be a very sharp picture and less money, get a Samsung 2770FH monitor, its a 27", with a 10.2 GBps transfer rate HDMI cable, and be sure to set the response time setting to fastest. They are a 1ms pixel response time monitor, 60hz which is ps3's native output refresh rate, and the reason pixel response is important is because the lower the response time, the sharper the picture stays. Get internet that is at least 1 mega byte download speed, and always set whatever screen you get to game mode.

Hdmi 1.3a cable is best ... But hook up using your av cables then press and hold the power button for ten seconds on the console once its back to factory settings hook the hdmi up and goto the settings menu and select display. Then select hdmi out.
For audio goto settings then sound then audio out select hdmi. THen you should be able to disconnect the standard av cables and have hd.
