well depends. the Chinese believe that it can help you live longer but traditional Western medicine will say a big NO unless there is a desperate need to not be dehydrated and even then you can only get so much out of urine which is itself a waste product. Some other interesting things you can do with urine are, take the sting out of a jellyfish sting, by peeing on the spot the ammonia in urine relieves the pain, tanning a hide, making gunpowder, and the urea in urine is thought to be a wonderful skin softening agent much like lotion. I think I'll stick with Vaseline Intensive Care instead though.

My wife does this regularly for health purposes. There's a video of an interview with her on Youtube. She has also appeared on TV and various magazines and radio programmes in connection with it.

However, i beg to differ. I don't think your body would go to such a huge effort to rid itself of the waste if it was just going to be poured back in at the other end. Having said that, i do think there are some things it could be used for. Urea is a diuretic, so it could possibly encourage some substances to be excreted. Also, it puts the body under stress, which is potentially a good thing. There is a cancer drug which is based on urea, and i think it may be more difficult for tumour cells to cope with it than healthy cells because of their less efficient metabolism. However, no-one on chemotherapy or any other kind of orthodox medication should ever drink their own urine because it could amount to an overdose of the medication they are on or it may contain toxic metabolites of the drug they are taking. It is also high in alpha globulins, which are antibacterial, the hormone DHEA, which is possibly beneficial and water soluble vitamins. It is also sterile when it emerges from a healthy person's body.

There are orthodox applications for urea. It has been used as a diuretic and it is present in some face creams, and i do believe urine can be good for the skin. I also believe in using it to cleanse sinuses, which my wife also does for allergic rhinitis, and it could also be used for hay fever. However, i don't recommend that to my patients simply because i think it would put them off and they wouldn't try it, so there's no point.

So, basically i think it is generally neutral or harmful, but occasionally may be helpful. Feel free to contact us if you want to know more.

No drinking wee is not good for you as it is a waste product from your body all the value and nutrition has allready been taken out.. Although wee, believe it or not is very good for cleaning wounds in emergancy in the field situations because of the acids it contains however if used in this way make sure that you have plenty of fresh water to wash the wee from the injury....

Im glad this question wasnt about poo!.. :)

Hmm...

Well there is two sides to this.

On the one hand urine contains all the toxins that your kidneys have filtered through and are considered to 'unhealthy' to be kept inside the human body.

On the other hand urine is particuarlly good for hydration and does contain certain mnierals etc that are beneficial to the human body. That is why it is recommended that in a life/death situation involving dehydration the best thnig to drink is your urine.

But at the end of the day... Why not have a coke? :P

Hope this helps,

Max

No - as it's an acid it's certainly no good for your teeth and as its a fairly strong acid as it goes down it will damage the bones in the throat eventually, similar to being sick and bringing up stomach acid.

However, as it "comes out" of the body, it is completely sterile and cleaner than spirits or water, so a practical application of it that if you're say in the desert and cut yourself, if you pee on it it will keep it clean.

Yes, it actually is supposed to be quite good for your health.
I know someone who drinks it daily but he is so wrong that it will help heal his legs. It doesn't make you gain muscle.
Regardless, I'd never ever do it unless I were trapped in an avalanche or something. It can save your life by preventing dehydration.

urine is full of waste that your body has expelled, what makes you think ingesting those waste products would be good for you? The only thing that could induce me to drink my own urine would be if I was stranded in the desert with no water.

NO! - Absolutely not.

The body gets rid of it for a reason, so putting it back into the body is illogical and foolish - as well as being rather unpleasant.
