My Jack Russell puppy aged 10 weeks old!! Was fine running around, playing and then out of the blue he just started fitting (then looked like he was chewing) and then started foaming at the mouth!! As this continued for a while he then pooed himself while he was fitting!! i rushed him to the vets and he was sedated and given blood tests!! but nothing showed up in his tests and the vets couldn't find a reason!! He died after being in the vets for 2 days!! He had never been out of the house before as i was waiting for him to have his second jab, which was due 2 days after this happened. So he couldn't of been poisoned. There isn't any poisons around the house.

If anyone else has experienced this, knows of any causes or can tell there story of something similar i would really appreciate your comments. He became apart of the family and is dearly missed!! Thank you, Charlotte x

Your vet had no idea what was wrong with him?
If you get another purebred dog please make sure that you get it from a reputable breeder, not a pet store or backyard breeder. By reputable breeder I mean someone that you will probably meet through a breed organization or club. Someone who breeds dogs to show. It will be more expensive, but you'll get a good dog that comes from a healthy bloodline and if something happens you can call the breeder and ask them about it. Do a lot of research before you commit to buying a purebred puppy. Go to the breeder's house and ask to see their dogs. They should be clean and healthy and the breeder should have proof that her dogs are of show quality. A good breeder will ask you to sign a contract and the dog will have to be spayed or neutered. You can expect to pay $600 and up for a dog of this quality.
Or you can consider adopting a purebred dog from a rescue. This is where I got my Welsh corgi and he's a wonderful, perfect dog.

DISTEMPER! Your dog had distemper. My puppy was doing the same thing. Vet's don't really recognize it anymore because it is so rare.

Distemper Symptoms3
•Conjunctivitis (discharge from the eye) , Diarrhea , Fever , Pneumonia (cough, labored breathing) , Rhinitis (runny nose) , Vomiting
•Encephalomyelitis (an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord), Ataxia (muscle incoordination) , Hyperesthesia (increased sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as pain or touch), Myoclonus (muscle twitching or spasm which can become disabling), Progressive deterioration of mental abilities, Progressive deterioration of motor skills, Seizures that can affect any part of the body (One type of seizure that affects the head, and is unique to distemper, is sometimes referred to as a "chewing gum fit" because the dog appears to be chewing gum.)

EDIT: Distemper doesn't show up in blood tests. They have to scrape the eyelids and look at the cells there. You really should go back to the vet's office and tell them you think it was distemper (and if possible have an autopsy done on your dog). Any other dogs from that litter probably also have distemper. Whoever the puppy came from should also be notified. This is exremely serious, as distemper is highly contagious in puppies that haven't had their shots.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Did you have an autopsy done?

There are lots of things in houses that act like poisons, for example soaps, cleaners, and polishes. It is also fairly common for pups to be injured which can cause seizures.

Better luck with the next one.

wow, where did you get your dog from? it could be genetics. or overbreeding.

i am so sorry. It is so hard to lose a dog so young, i know, been there, hated it, it was the worst pain ever.

good luck to you.

I think he could have had a seisure take him to a nearby vet, and they will tell you for sure. My dalmation had a seisure and it turned out he had a disease called ephalepsy which causes seisures, the vet gave us some pills to give him, and he did fine. But just take him to the vet.

He might have ate something that did that too him. Chocolate for instance can kill a puppy!

i think it was a seizer that could happen by poor breeding, or just poor health.
