um, because its kind of easy to explain it that way to a child, and as an adult you will learn that a baby doesnt grow in the stomach. its just one of those things you eventually learn in life when the time comes. i have a 3 yr old son, i guarantee i will never look at him and say "you grew in mommy's uterus"....he can learn that when he is older and can understand that kind of information

i dont think that people dont know that babies grow in stomachs it is just that since we were very little we have noticed that babies make stomachs bigger and we have always been told that babies grow in mommies stomachs. and it would be very difficult to tell an inquisitive 3 year old what an uterus is and what it does:)

I always wanted to know that myself. I mean everyone KNOWS that babies are made from love, music, sugar and little rays of sunshine, then they are delivered to the mommy and daddy by the stork. At least that's what they used to tell kids in the 50's.

parents don't want to teach their kids about sex, or how to use their sex organs for reglious, moral, and for financial reasons.

but at the same time parents don't want to fill their kids with stork stories,

so they find a happy medium and the stomach end up beign the safe and "fair" ground for their explinations

besides, when a woman looks pregnant, doesn't it look like their stomach is the area that is effected?

My mother taught me that babies come from the stomach too. Later, I learned in anatomy class that the stomach is attached to the mouth. Then I read this question and learned we've been trying and trying to have a baby, but we've been doing it all wrong!

because its near your stomache area and if you went up to a kid and said i have a baby in my uterous they would look at you funny, and not everyone knows what a uterous is. i do but im just saying.
