It took about...oh, maybe 3-4 weeks. Its different for everyone, though. I'm on 225 mg.

For me, I started up at 37.5 mg each night and was sick for a week, in order for the medication and my system to adjust to the changes. Like someone said between 3-4 weeks for a sign of improvement in health and be able to function without any problems. It helped balance my seasonal affective disorder as well as depression off an on. It has been 3 to 4 yrs that I have been on Effexor, only one increase during the winter blahs to 75 mg...

It took a few months for me and a dosage of 225 mg to feel significantly better. I now take 300 mg.
