When I was a teenager, I used to think I'm invincible and nothing bad will ever happen to me (only to other people). Couple with that the lack of experience and you have disaster waiting to happen. I'm not saying all teen-agers are like this but most teens I knew had this attitude and they caused more accidents on the road than some people who were more mature minded and experienced.

We all have to start somewhere but since teens have a higher driving death rate, it would be better if they didn't drive unsupervised. Since parents seem to think that their teens need their own cars, it's tough to monitor their driving skills and lack of attention to the fact that they are in a 2000 lb. bomb. One drivers test for teens isn't enough. There should be ongoing schooling relative to road rules, speed, talking on phones, etc. It would be great if parents did this but with most families, time is the enemy here. Personally, I believe a kid gets a car as soon as they get their own career and pays for it themselves. It's amazing how ownership and responsibility can change how one handles a vehicle. I was 21 before I had my first car and I made sure I treated it with respect. Insurance and repairs or loss are expensive.

I agree and I am a teenager. My brother died from a car accident when he was 17. Most teenagers disagree with this though because they want to drive. So many people at my school brag about their reckless and drunk driving. Teens are generally no where near mature enough to drive.

I can't go along with what you say, I learned how to drive when I was 17.
From what I see, most teenagers are responsible enough to be able to drive; and believe me theres just as many people out there in their 30's, 40's and 50's who shouldn't have a license either.
Teenagers have to get their experience somewhere.

If teens want the experience of driving, they should be made to take a mandatory driving school. Most teens aren't aware of the consequences of their actions and could care less. This goes for some adults as well.

I'd say some teenagers should be able too. The teens who are responsible and get good grades should be allowed. But, the teenagers who are immature and who are not responsible shouldn't be allowed to drive.

It's amazing that I didn't kill someone when I was a teenager. Probably had something to do with the fact that there weren't many other people around (very rural area).
Teens take chances and often don't understand how dangerous those chances are.
We had one the other day who was weaving in and out of heavy traffic, lost control and ran over two highway workers, putting them in intensive care. He wasn't hurt, of course.

using a double negative means you DO think they have enough experience...............
they need some kind of experience before being able to drive alone. they need to put down the phone and stop texting while driving and pay attention like the rest of the sane people.

Teenagers aren't experienced enough and now with the cell phones as a distraction it makes it that much worse.

Most teenagers are hot-headed hormonal time-bombs who think they are invincible and always right. Not a good combination for handling tons of flesh-mangling steel, really.
