i'm a scrapbooker (like creative memories, stuff like that) and i really enjoy giving a scrapbook for special occasions. what if you got pictures from the past 40 years, and put them together in an album, with a few stories? it would take a huge amount of work, but maybe your mom and dad would really enjoy a trip down memory lane. if you have siblings, it could be a group project and would make it extra special to your parents. it's also something your dad could enjoy any time he wants.
all the best!

First, I'm sorry to hear your father is recovering from a stroke.

I agree with the two who suggested a scrapbook and slide show. Those sound like great ideas. Perhaps you can arrange with the nursing home to have a private room and have a little luncheon with your parents and siblings (and any grandkids).

Reserve (or rent) the dining hall or a meeting room at the care center, and invite all of your family, siblings, your parents bro and sisters, etc and having a big dinner. All of the participants share a few words and fond memories of your parents......
We did this on my parents 50th anniversary and it was very nice for them.

What about putting together a photo slide show of all their years together on a lap top. It's portable and easy to show in the nursing home.
