can you estimate a length of time it would take someone to work in homicide ? What classes would they make you take in order to work in that position ?

In a police department, I presume?

Get a degree in criminal justice, then get into a police department and work your way up toward a promotion to homicide detective. Time can vary, but this isn't something that will happen real fast like within a year or so.
