No matter what I do, my family always makes me feel like a screw-up.

I'm 19 years old. I quit college because I decided it wasn't for me. I thought that I was wasting time and money because I didn't want to be there.

I have a good job, my salary is $25k a year with full benefits and a lot of room for advancement. When I decide I'm ready for college, I will recieve full tuition reimbursement.
I bought myself a new car. I help my mother pay her bills.

But no matter what, they always act like I should be doing better.

My sister is a drug addict and when I bring that point up, like if I say, "Well at least I don't do drugs..." it's not good enough.

I've actually considered going into the military to make them think better of me.

What else can I do?

It doesn't matter what they think of you. What matters is what you think of you. The reason that they are picking at you is because they love you. They want to see you do better than them so that they can hold you high. If it seems more like an insult then it could be jealousy. I wouldn't go join the military though just to make them think better of you. It's your life, live it how you want to.

My brother has threatened to burn all of my manga. Consistently calls the Japanese music that I listen to "foreign bullsh*t". Though he has been more ignnoring the fact. My mother makes fun of it and tells me I need to find something else. My father seems to be okay with it, if a little confused. I think he's just happy that I joined anime club at my school, so I have to get out of the house and be with people. My sister makes fun of it sometimes, but nothing much. Though she will call it cartoon porn around my family (extended family as well). As for revenge; consantly make fun of what she likes. Any chance you get play japanese music, watch anime, read manga around her. Start talking about a series and act like you really want her to get into too. Hope that helps :).

Learn to appreciate your own efforts and stop looking for their approval. My family are like yours and I too considered the military. I'm in school now because I want to be and I want that diploma and I couldn't care less what they think about it. You're gonna have to toughen up and be proud of yourself, it'd be nice if we all had loving supportive families that love us and are proud but rivalry and jealousy in families isn't as rare as it should be. Well done for keeping your head above water and not going down the route your sister did now get out there and hold your head high and bugger what your family says!

You, No, not just you, but children, will never make their parents happy.

Be happy with yourself. You're the most important person in your life. Not to say that your family and loved ones are not important.
Make yourself happy. No one can do it for you. And you can't do it for others.

Life experience. A long life.

You're alright. Things could be worse. You could be the one expecting them to pay your bills because of a drug problem you have.

maybe you should move out and be on your own showing you don't need help. family should care and help you if they don't then adopt a new one.blood doesn't make a family.

it sounds to me like you are doing pretty good. Keep doing what you're doing. and college isn't for everyone or else everyone would be going, right? please don't worry about what other people think of you, you can't please other people. you can only please yourself. I think you are doing fine. It's your choice what you decide to do. not someone elses.
