I think it is the deepest dock so it can take the World's biggest ships.

It has the largest dry dock in the UK and has a history of being the departure port for cruise ships, cargo boats, flying boats and ferries.
In the 1800's it was Known as the "Gateway to the Empire".
In the 1930s, Southampton handled nearly half of the UK's ocean-going passenger traffic and millions of tons of cargo - making the port the 'Gateway to the World'.
It has a deep water channel and can take the largest cruise ships.

Because it's the deepest and I can't wait to sail from there again next year on the independence of the seas, one of the worlds largest cruise ships!!

Because it's on the south coast so the ships don't have to sail down half of England.
