The fact that US sacrifice in Gulf War I ended with Kuwait being such a role model for Middle East democracy gives me hope we will reach the same goal with Iraq in Gulf War II. Doesn't it make you hopeful?

Thanks for pointing out the obvious Mr. J. I'm sorry I used the more subtle form of facetiousness.

There's one BIG problem with your assertion: Kuwait is not a democracy, it's a monarchy. But, the people of Kuwait are just fine with that. And, that points out one problem with our attempt to import democracy into the Middle East: some countries are quite satisfied with the system of government that they have, thank you, and have no use for democracy. With democracy comes responsibility, and some don't want that.

Why don't you ask the question you mean to ask and not make us guess whether you are being facetious or just uninformed and then insult us when we guess wrong and take you at your word? The answer is still the same: some countries don't want democracy and it is arrogant of the US to feel that because it's good for us it must be good for the rest of the world.

Salaam Alaykum,
As a Muslim..this war has outraged the Arab community and nobody willingly wants to align themselves with the West. Dubai and Kuwait are flourishing countries financially but after watching the bloody scenes that are censored on our media you can't expect them to do more than sell you more oil and buy weapons from you but to snuggle up to an American without a business deal is about as pleasurable to them as going to bed with a sand scorpion.
Wasalaam
