I spent three years at Bliss and loved it 'cause I'm a desert rat. If you like high temperatures and low humidity in the summer, Bliss has that. The hottest it ever got while I was there was 109, humidity about 15%. Also Juarez, Mexico is right next door and can be a blast to visit. But as far as being everyone's idea of a good place to be assigned I guess Irwin would come out on top.

Spent a couple of years at Ft. Irwin. It's a hot desert in the summer and freezing in the winter. It was fun out there. But I also lived in LA, so it was only a few hours away. Since I was Op-4, we had a 4 day weekend once a month. That was our only time off.
Barstow is around 52 mles away and there is nothing there either. Las Vegas is about 80 miles.
A Base, Fort, Camp, Post, etc... is what you make of it. They all have the same things.
Ft Irwin was building new Barracks and Housing hen I left in '96

I was never stationed there....but....in the late 80's I started going there every 3 to 6 weeks for several years as a civilian. I still keep in touch with a 4'10.5 " brunette. Yee Hah.
Ft Irwin is 30 miles from Barstow CA. An armpit in it's own right!!!!!

Bliss is much better than Irwin, Irwin has nothing very close, and the main post is tiny, the housing sucks and it is very depressing . Unless you like that kind of stuff...

Naming a place "Bliss" sounds like a trap for the naive.

It doesn't make any difference what base you go to, each one offers diffrent things, and more that are the same.
