Things have change very much since the 1950's
We all started drinking from mugs instead of cups and saucers.
Eating our dinners on a tray in front of television instead of sitting at a table
The media could run anyone down they like. In 1950 no one would dare make jokes about the Queen.
Then there's the swearing and sex thing. We have become so used to seeing and hearing about it we don't blink an eyelid now.
I don't call any of it 'progress' We have become common and cheap.

Respect must be earned not expected. Yes, today's society lacks it because parents, fail to teach their kids properly and in turn, they grow up believing it's the right thing to do. PC is at the core of the problem and people being brainwashed to think it's the only right way. I happen to think that things were better back in the old days, but even then you had idiots too.

Nothing from where i am standing
people respect those who know more
Kids respect parents
and parents respect older people ,
but it is true the more civilized the less the respects
the most respectful people i have ever met .and the most courteous ,and hospitable were in the jungles of Oaxaca with the Mazatecca Indians ,and in rural Africa .
It seems that the more civilized people become the less respect they have ,especially the younger people

Parenting is the answer, i can remember when my mother was young, she was 21 years old and had to be home for 9 o'clock, its all about respect, i believe all would be parents should have to take parenting classes before having any children and believe me they work because Ive been on one, and its certainly helped me become a better parent and to help bring my kids up to be decent, polite, better adults, i realize not one of us has a book in our hand when we are born, but i think we learn from our parents, you are what your parents made you.

Whenever you feel like being rude to somebody, stop yourself, and be polite instead. That's the way to fix it.

People werent more respectful in the 1950's, look at segeragation (i cant spell today... barf) and how horribly african americans were treated
Look at how women were treated, expected to ONLY be homemakers. how is that respectful? (of course its respectful if its YOUR choice to be a homemaker, but my point is CHOICE!)
