It was so odd. My friend told me her mother knew someone who ate sticks of butter. She was perfectly thin although. But then she stopped. Now shes critically obese.
Is there any scientific explanation to this?

there is a direct relationship between hormones and weight. If you want to know the scientific reason behind it. Any food that can increase insulin might cause you get fat...it is called glycemic index so things that are sweet and have high sugar and high fat...On the other hand anything that can cause release of growth hormone in your body from the pituitary gland can cause you lose weight...these are good night sleep, fasting, low sugar diet and exercise....to make it simple if you want to lose weight you should increase the level of growth hormone in your body and if you want to gain weight you should increase the level of insulin in your body....I hope it is simple to understand.....in another words things that you eat and goes down from your mouth is number detrminent of your health, well being , weight and life expectency.....so I think you have to be extremly cautious about things you choose to swallow down your throat.

Yes - eat fat, be fat.
It sounds as though she has an eating disorder - perhaps she's not really stopped eating things like sticks of butter. And, when you knew she was doing it and she was still thin, she might have been purging.
Your body works well up until a certain point (and how can you ever tell what that point will be??) and then it stops doing what it's supposed to do. You mess with the machinery, ie binging and purging, and your body will no longer know how to effectively deal with the storage or use of fats.
And, the more fat you have on your body the more difficult it is to get rid of it. Not impossible, just more difficult.
Muscle burns more calories than fat does.
So there are quite a few possible explanations for what is happening with this woman.

She is probably not serious. Just because people are thin does not mean they are healthy. If a person eats sticks of butter, then they probably going to have a heart attack from a clogged artery.

All that butter probably caused her such bad diarrhea she stayed thin. Now she's obviously eating something else...or too much of everything...so she's gained too much weight.
If she doesn't wake up and get on a healthy diet, she's going to ruin her health!

Years of eating saturated fat caught up with her? Or she's winding you up...
