I am a 20 year old male student wanting to use his talents for God's glory. On the other hand, I find it very difficult talking to people, and am really not confident I can talk to people about deep issues without messing up completely. Since God allowed me to have this condition, he must have some use for it.

Instead of trying to talk to anyone about it, just get your story out there, and use it to inspire others. Name your successes and your failures and how you became a stronger person because of your condition.

I'm not a Christian, by the way. Everyone, Christians and otherwise, find stories like your's inspiring. You don't even need to mention God.

My nephew has Aspergers and my family are very devout Catholics. He has been raised with the understanding of God, and since the Catholic faith is very tangible, it gives him aspects he can grasp. He is an altar server, and he has been taught the prayers etc. He asks questions and knows the teachings of the Church. Knowing God does not rely on emotions. Emotions play a part in the love we feel for God, but even without that emotion we know God exists. Your friend should stick to the "reason" we know God, the reasons we follow him. I'm sure that her daughter will be able to grasp the logical understanding of our Savior, his birth, death and resurrection. Salvation etc. if it is explained as absolute truth and not an emotional experience.

You believe that God allowed you to have the condition, well that's your belief, so I won't argue that point. What I will say is that you have a gift to give others, you are very intelligent, the only problem that your 'Asperger's syndrome' might cause is that you might find it difficult to 'read' other people and possible feelings of not being able to relate to them, this shouldn't stop you from being able to give good advice to others about your beliefs, it would be fascinating for you to invite people to see into your world as it's an interesting place to be.
Good luck!
PS. I agree with Dr Kemp about God.

Hi,
You have asked a good question that I am sure many people in your situation have felt. I am sending you some paragraphs from an article that you may find interesting. The physical problems are a little different but are still something that might give you some encouragement. Below is a statement from a blind and deaf person in the article. She went through many years of learning and effort but she was able to use her life in service to God.

I look forward to regaining both my hearing and my sight in Jehovah's new world. In the meantime I am not one of the loneliest people in the world, but I have a worldwide family of millions of spiritual brothers and sisters. All this, thanks to Jehovah, who has promised that he will by no means leave me nor by any means forsake me. Yes, in spite of all the challenges, I can say: "Jehovah is my helper; I will not be afraid."—Hebrews 13:5, 6.

The first step is to start a study, it can be in your own home, at your own time scale that works best for you. It can be 15 minutes, or one hour a week and it is free. You can have a progressive study that will help you to learn about your heavenly father and that is the one most important step you can do. Taking in accurate knowledge is the key to our everlasting life. There are understandable and reliable answers to questions you might have or things you don't understand.

1) Find out what your perseverative interests are.

(For these who don't know, a perseverative interest is an interest that is so compelling, it cannot help but absorb your interest to the exclusion of almost anything else.)

2) Chances are this interest is your area of strength as well as your area of interest and so maybe you should cultivate it and make good use of it.

God perhaps has built YOU to have that interest so that you could improve upon it.

This may sound rather droll, but consider that if your interest is light bulbs, for example, by improving upon it and making a light bulb that gives more light with less power, you are saving God's earth by reducing energy consumption.

Part of doing God's work is looking at what we are given and looking at the tasks we are confronted with. I am sure we are meant to use our talents and abilities just like we are meant to face the challenges set before us. I am not God, and so cannot say what He wants, but perhaps this speculation is as good as any.

As another Christian with Asperger's Syndrome, it's quite encouraging to hear that I'm not alone in finding it hard to speak to other people about my faith.

Maybe it's not your "social" or debating skills that you should be looking to use in God's service? I suspect you have other skills and strengths that can be put to good use. Either for your church or volunteering to help a charity in your area or overseas if you feel able.

I'm currently helping my local church by doing some data entry work in the church office, where my often obsessive attention to detail and accuracy can be of use. I've caught a few errors, made a few myself, fixed them and moved on.

He can and he does. I know a Christian woman with Asperger's and I often wonder if I have it myself. Both of us seem to be more effective witnessing online than anywhere else. Maybe we're God's Internet army. =P

Study and meditation are part of the Christian Life as well.

Be still and see that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, and I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10)
