When you are collecting unemployment can you get a job, making less then you are collecting, and still get the same amount in unemployment? So bascially can you get unemployment and work at a lower paying job?

Thanks for all the answers! I was wondering because my bf got laid off, collecting unemployment now while he tries to find a new job, and I was wondering if picking up a side part time job would omit the unemployment checks. Thanks!

You can't collect the full amount - you get benefits based on the difference between what you used to make, and what you make now. In some states. It will vary by state.

Here's how it works in PA.
you can earn up to a certain amount, and you will not be penalized at all.
Beyond that, you are penalized, dollar for dollar, until you exceed the amount you can earn.
The idea is, to not penalize you if you are able to find work, but it doesn't pay a lot of money.

I've seen this; laid off truck drivers are able to work a day a week. They don;t earn that much, and are not penalized for accepting a chance to earn a few dollars.

If you are unemployed and apply on-line, this amount is known by you in a very short period of time.

No. They reduce it according to your income. And I think that's only for part-time jobs. If you work full-time, I think you lose it all.

No. Do not even think about getting away with something, because it won't work.
