Until last month, neither the US nor the UK had a National memorial to honour all their service personnel killed while on duty since WW11. The British solution $14.2 mil monument inscribed with 15,530 names was formally dedicated on Oct 12 in Central England, The National Memorial Arboretum. The unique feature, all members of the British Armed forces killed since 1945 whether in training, on exercise, on operations or in battle is honoured. At exactly 1100 hrs Nov 11 as the UK falls silent for 2 minutes on its annual act of rembrance, a carefully placed slit in one of its walls will allow a beam of sunlight to shine across its central plaque. The British memorial was conceived by retired RN Comd David Childs, who was inspired by visits to Arlington, so partially inspired by that visit would it be fitting if Britain’s all encompassing memorial serves as a prototype for an American, covering all campaigns and non campaigns, or would it be too complicated a task to gather every name ?

Con, The British Royal Legion owns the land, the funds came from various sources including the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar coin, so the treasury stumped up 3 mill, a similar amount came from direct public contribution, 5.7 mil came from the national lottery and a number of events by servicemen raised the rest.

I think we need such a memorial in the U.S. for the Cold War. Thousands died of non-combat causes and some in clandestine combat actions as well. We still have 124 missing in action from the Cold War. The data base of names is available because I received a mass-produced certificate of appreciation from Defense Secretary Cohen during the Clinton administration. If such a memorial were built it would honor those who couldn't even get the time of day from the "Petey Patriot Platoon" before September 11, 2001.

Paddy who financed the British monument? I believe a lot of the funds were public donation and sponsorship with very little if any being paid for by the current military hating Government.

I believe the Americans have one to the Vietnam era veterans,

not sure about Korean Era. Perhaps one of our American posters could comment?

It all depends on whether the Taxpayer will be happy to foot the bill!

Job in france marriage PAC common law marriage look into the 3rd, ignore the french themselves and get a lawyer to show you what to do for 50 euros. done. oh , and you will not need to show a criminal record if you have a kid in the EU, this is only if your saying your in a EU country to work with a employer, the criminal record request takes time as well if you can avoid it always ask., TIP: French are racists when it comes to relationships first hand with americans but all you have to do is smile back and at some point they will realize your not the monsters they see on TV doing all the evil., can you blame them, give them a chance to climb out of the dark ages still.
