I don't believe I've ever heard that, but if I were to hear it, I would immediately assume that the person is ignorant.
If I'm atheist (and I am) then not only do I not believe in your god, but I don't believe in your satan either.
Edit:
But one of my favorite songs is "Sympathy for the devil" by the Rolling Stones...isn't that ironic? ;-)

People say lots of things. I read the answers already posted before I replied. I don't usually do that. However, I agree with all the answers I read.
Ignorance, fear, people grouping up to be part of a group even if it is against something.
I'm in agreement with the logic of this perspective: that if an atheist is one not believing in God (and therefore all that comes under that heading including Jesus, Christ and anti-Christ) then you can't have an anti-Christ without Christ.
Those religionists who think that if you aren't one of them you must be the devil are off base, and their ministers should know better and educate them better. And maybe they are genuinely concerned for you in a twisted way - as in I can't do this earth walk without openly relying on God in a certain way and so others who don't do it 'my way' are open and suseptible to all the vileness and may be overtaken by it. But to just judge a person is this or that because of what they say they believe in is ludicrous. God, if God could be encompassed or described in any accurate way at all by words on paper, would be, in my words, what a person experiences on the inside of themselves. That part that they know that they know that they know a particular Truth, even if everyone else says something different. God is very personal. And every human on the planet has some inner awareness talking to them. Some fearful Christians seem to think that you can't have contact with God-Truth if you don't believe in the many varied God-constructs available to choose from here on earth. And so, anyone not subscribing to one of those constructs is atheist.
I personally know 5 atheists that are more Christian in their lives than many many many "Christians". It comes down to the people equation, for me.
"Love your neighbor as yourself" never brought religion or satanism into it.
You just keep being your best you and all will be well, no matter what certain narrow-minded, misguided people may say.
You stand in the Truth of your being and you cannot be 'wrong' anywhere in the universe except in someone else's small minded thinking. Blessings.

Most Satanists are atheists, but not most atheists are Satanists. People seem to get that mixed up.

Well I'm Roman Catholic and would never dream of calling an Athiest a satanist. Truly it's wrong to judge.

It's part of the whole "If you're not with us, you're against us" philosophy that is being pushed by the Fundamentalist Christian Right these days.

Non-belief in god = anti-christian = in league with the devil.
Where as in fact we're barely on speaking terms with him.
