Shingle pain is awful and is not really helped by regular
Having said that it does help to take some tylenol or ibuprofen on a REGULAR basis. This helps to increase your tolerance to the pain
It also depends on where it is and ifit is in a place that can have a cream applied I would get a product with "capsaicin" in it which does help to deaden the pain. eg Lakota (although not all of Lakota - you need to check on the ingredients) , Zostrix and there are others.
There is also a herbal/homeopatic product called NEURAGEN which I just happen to have in my desk drawer. It is made by BIOMED and apparently there web site is www.originbiomed.com
I have used this with great success. It is an oily product and really does help.
The problem with shingles is that is actually nerve pain. Also the pain does continue after the infection has gone.Often called "post-herpetic pain"
If the pain is really bad there are a couple of prescription meds that do target this type of pain. There is Lyrica and also Neurontin
Do speak with your doctor as you do not need to suffer.

I had shingles when I was about 26 yrs old after I had mono. I think I must have a high pain tolerance because when I had them, it only hurt really bad for about 3 days. I took OTC medications and I showered with the hottest water I could stand on my hip and down the side of my back. Finally they scabbed over. I dont ever want to get them again.
Just take Ibuprophen and drink plenty of water and keep your clothes off them because thats what hurts. My jeans stuck to them because they were tight and I had to go to nursing school classes with full blown shingles. It was terrrible. They made me run a fever and the nodes swelled up in my groin on the left side. I was really glad when they dried up.

I know that pain from shingles is among the worst pain in the world.
Call your doctor's office. Leave a message that you need prescription pain killers. (You probably won't get a real person.) Tell them the name and phone # of your pharmacy. If you DO get a real person, tell him/her that you need prescription painkillers, along with the name of your pharmacy and phone number.
Tell them to call it in ASAP. Good luck, sweetie. :)

Some prescription medications (not the usual kind of painkillers) can help. Antivirals can stop it from getting worse, but not make it better once it's set in.
Outside of that, you just have to wait it out - which can take months.
My wife had it, and you have my sympathy.

Go see a Doctor and get medication. If you can't afford a Doctor then I hear bathing in a warm bath with oat-meal dumped in it can help. Look it up on the web.
