Really, people seem to slam JW's on a regular basis. But really, are the Catholics following the Bible? Show me how what they do as a church is in the Bible.

For example...calling priest "father", confessing to a man, praying to Mary, I could go on all day with a list.

lilmissy only validates my point! She compared calling a priest father to me calling my dad father! Good comparison!!

Why do you need someone to pray for you? If you are praying to Mary, wanting her to pray for you, why not pray to GOD yourself??!!

the thing is, the Bible DOES mention about how we are not to call religious teachers by a title. It even says not to call them father...Jesus said that.

angel...I appreciate your comments. I'm not going to try to show anyone the better way, or however you put it. I'm wanting to be told how the things your church does is in the bible, when I and others see it is clearly the opposite of what it teaches.

You could go on all day because you do not understand.
You are not really interested so why ask the question.

I became a Catholic in the year 2000, no other reason other than it felt right for me to do so. I had to attend lessons so that I could understand certain issues, this took one whole year and many questions to many people.
Do you think that I could explain all this study in a few lines.
Would you really listen or be bothered to read it.
I dont think so.
So why dont you show us how clever you are, and what philosophies you follow if indeed you have any....I challenge you to tell us poor Catholic Christians what is better....go on do it if you can...I have laid down the gauntlet......

I believe Catholics and Protestants both have saving faith. I do not think the JW's do but God can save whoever he wills. I think scripture makes it very clear as to what we must do to be saved and the JW's do not do it. This does not imply that all JW's will roast in hell. God makes that determination and I am not invited to make that decision.

To Gismo: I don't get that propaganda they hand you about Peter passing something on the your church. The apostles were no part of the world, as Jesus instructed them, and your church had its beginning as a state religion.

The reason it has lasted so long is that it has been in a steady marriage with the political parties of the eras.

There are many sincere Catholics, just as there are of many religions, but unfortunately I think the religion qualifies as part of the spacious way that Jesus describes at Mt. 7:13. Go in through the narrow gate because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it. All Catholics should be examining the scriptures daily to see if what they are being taught is in the scriptures.

I also need to add that in the Model Prayer, Jesus instructed us to pray to the Father. No one else, not himself, and definitely not the dead saints. Catholics are not the only ones that are wrong when it comes to praying, many others pray to Jesus the Son, instead of to the Father Jehovah through the merits of the Son's sacrifice.

Hmm..interesting.
Catholics don't follow the Bible...Jehovah's Witnesses do.
People "slam" on JW's becasue they have the truth...everyone knows it..they just won't admit it.
Notice how ew-JW's usually remain without a religion..because they know no other religion out there has the truth or is even close.
The Catholic religion fits the definition of a cult...Jehovah's Witnesses don't.
We do not worship man...but yet Catholics worship idols and the pope.
Thanks for bringing out this important point.

the only Father is my Heavenly Father in heaven and his name is Jehovah. Jesus said not to call anyone Father. why would I confess my sins to an imperfect person. I hear people praying to Mary, she is Jesus Christ mother. I agree with you. people don't want to hear what we as Jehovah Witnesses have to say. they did not want to listen to Jesus Christ either. they also laughed at Noah when he was preaching and building an ark, but when Jehovah closed the door of the ark, and they could not get in, he destroyed the wicked and Jehovah will do it again. years ago my late husband was on the train in new york with this catholic woman, anytime she passed a church you would make the sign of the cross and had the rosary beads in her hand. it made no sense at all

What is it that they keep calling us because they think we follow men instead of God?

Oh yeah a "cult" however we dont worship or pray to the governing body. We worship God.

However they worship and pray to the pope........hmmm thats a pretty big cult there.

I agree with Vot.......and yes this will be very interesting to see what pple say.

Here's what the Bible says about not calling anyone "Father," etc.

Matthew 23:9, 10
9 Moreover, do not call anyone YOUR father on earth, for one is YOUR Father, the heavenly One. 10 Neither be called ‘leaders,’ for YOUR Leader is one, the Christ.

Images are prohibited
Exodus 20:4, 5
4 “You must not make for yourself a carved image or a form like anything that is in the heavens above or that is on the earth underneath or that is in the waters under the earth. 5 You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation, in the case of those who hate me.

Mary mother of Jesus, not "mother of God"
Luke 1:35
35 In answer the angel said to her: “Holy spirit will come upon you, and power of the Most High will overshadow you. For that reason also what is born will be called holy, God’s Son.

Mass unscriptural
No need to repeat Jesus' Sacrifice
Hebrew 9:24-26
24 For Christ entered, not into a holy place made with hands, which is a copy of the reality, but into heaven itself, now to appear before the person of God for us. 25 Neither is it in order that he should offer himself often, as indeed the high priest enters into the holy place from year to year with blood not his own. 26 Otherwise, he would have to suffer often from the founding of the world. But now he has manifested himself once for all time at the conclusion of the systems of things to put sin away through the sacrifice of himself.

Hebrews 10:11-14
11 Also, every priest takes his station from day to day to render public service and to offer the same sacrifices often, as these are at no time able to take sins away completely. 12 But this [man] offered one sacrifice for sins perpetually and sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from then on awaiting until his enemies should be placed as a stool for his feet. 14 For it is by one [sacrificial] offering that he has made those who are being sanctified perfect perpetually.

Commemoration of Lord's Evening Meal
Observed once a year on Passover date
Luke 22:1, 17-20
1 Now the festival of the unfermented cakes, the so-called Passover, was getting near. 17 And, accepting a cup, he gave thanks and said: “Take this and pass it from one to the other among yourselves; 18 for I tell YOU, From now on I will not drink again from the product of the vine until the kingdom of God arrives.” 19 Also, he took a loaf, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying: “This means my body which is to be given in YOUR behalf. Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” 20 Also, the cup in the same way after they had the evening meal, he saying: “This cup means the new covenant by virtue of my blood, which is to be poured out in YOUR behalf.

Ex. 12:14
14 “‘And this day must serve as a memorial for YOU, and YOU must celebrate it as a festival to Jehovah throughout YOUR generations. As a statute to time indefinite YOU should celebrate it.

Don't forget the Trinity, use of images, use of the rosary during prayer, the Pope as the head of the church instead of Christ, "mass" every Sunday, participation in war, pagan celebrations.............

P.S. My dad is my father because he gave life to me. Only one who gives life can be called "father". That would be our heavenly Father and earthly father ONLY.
