In the Army, your spouse gets BAH while you're in training, but I can't speak intelligently on the Marine Corps. I would think it would be the same. I personally believe that he's in the military the day he ships to bootcamp. He may not be a marine yet, but he's definitely in the military at that point.

For the Navy the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) also starts while the married sailor is going through boot camp. BUT the sailor has to have the dependents on his paperwork when he enlists.
And just like when you start any job it can sometimes take a while for the paychecks to start coming. I know my DH was about 1/2 way through boot camp before he could send me any money because that's when he was handed his first paycheck. Now days if you have a joint checking account already set up and he has that information with him so that he can send his direct deposit there you'll have access to the money faster.
Just make sure you know what expenses he'll have for uniforms and sundries and make sure he knows what you'll need for rent and living so that you don't both spend all the money.

That is weird. I thought for sure he could already be elgible for BAH (short for housing allowence). The military has thousands of acronyms thats is one. While I am not sure on that, ask your question on military.com, there is plenty of good info there. The second part of your question is pretty easy. After bootcamp you can get your dependent ID cards, get enrolled in Tricare, Deers etc. If you live near a military base (any branch will work) you can get that taken care of pretty quick.

Try going to the website for the division your family memeber is in and checking with the CO. Its better than people advising you on the internet. There is a place where family can get specific info from the military.. do it..

For my understanding, he will not get BAH while he's in boot camp, because he's not officially a soldier until he completes basic training and graduates from the class. Right now he's a recruit and not a soldier; therefore, no BAH until he becomes one. (is only a few weeks, be patient)
Good luck

He probably won't start receiving BAH until he gets to his first duty assignment. But in the meantime he should be getting paid separation pay for being away from his family while training.
