I just got laid off from my job and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life now.
I have my Bachelor of Arts in Health Sciences, but it doesn't get me much because it's just an undergrad.
I would like to get into a profession that helps people, but I have no idea what to do (without having to go back to university). I was looking at being an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, but realized that they don't make very good money (it's more of a part-time job).
Does anyone have any ideas of careers that are out there that allow me to help people?? (that maybe aren't really heard of...)
I know it's kind of a general question, but I'm really at a loss here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated -- serious replies only please.

Unlike the other answers, I am going to risk saying something that you may not want to hear, but I truly believe it is the best answer for you. No one can tell you what job you should be doing. Helping people is a broad category.

Here is my recommendation:
You need to figure out what you like; What you enjoy doing beyond helping people. "Helping people" would put you in the service industry working anything from retail, to hospitals, being a nurse or doctor, to law firms, politics, working at a university helping students and that just a few of the many careers available in the service industry.

Do you know who you are and what you would bring to an organization? The answer is probably "no", and that is where you need to begin. You can take any job, but if you are working a job just to work, you are wasting their time and yours.
