"If you believe there is no god, doesnt that mean your believing in nothing?"---you're playing word games. It's about realities, not words. That sentence is illogical, just like if I said you believe in no tooth fairy, therefore you believe in nothing. Word game, see?
Besides, what do you mean by "god"? If you mean a personal creator deity, no ,that does no square with my experience. On the other hand, if you mean the impersonal ground of all being, like some Hindus and others, then yeah, maybe I could be called a theist.
I prefer the term rationalist. I believe a world view should be based on meaningful evidence and be internally consistent. I've yet to see any religion or "revelation" that is either, let alone both.
"Something had to have happened to you to not beleive." Yes, it did. It's called growing up.

Being Atheist means that you do not believe in a deity. It doesn't mean that you don't believe in anything.
I believe in love, freedom and helping your fellow man as much as, if not more than, any of the Christians I know. But these are things I can experience, not something I have to be told about by someone else. I help people because I want to, not because I expect to be rewarded for it by a vague promise of eternity.
I became an athiest after experiencing first hand what people are willing to do to others in the name of their beliefs. To my knowledge atheists have never ridiculed, ostracised, beaten, tortured, imprisoned or killed anyone simply for not believing the same way that they do

I don't know what you mean when you say believing in nothing.
If you mean believing in something supernatural, then, you're right, I don't.
I believe in being good to the people I love, in showing kindness to other people, in not causing harm, and in leaving this world a little better then I found it.
My lack of belief in god doesn't have anything to do with any trauma. In fact, it's not an emotional response at all. Nothing I've seen in the world, and no experience in my life points to the existence of god. It's really that simple.

1) If Atheist means "lack of God", then there are only Atheists, since there is no God. But it does not, it means lack of belief in a deity, or believeing there is no deity.
2) Unless you believe in every deity ever conceieved, you already know how someone could be without such a belief.
3) I do not believe because of the lack of evidence for a deity, and the tremendous amounts of evidence against.

As far as a higher power goes, no, we do not believe in anything.
I came to the conclusion that there was no God from my studying of history. You can only learn so much about the past until your belief in God hinders your understanding of other cultures and the times that they lived in.
The concept of a God doesn't make any sense, given that he hasn't shown any evidence of his existence to anyone but a select group of people. If he were real, he would show us all, on a mass scale, of his existence.
Nothing traumatic happened to me. It doesn't work like that. Someone who says they don't believe in God just to spite God isn't an Atheist, they're just a pissed off theist.

Not sure what a athiest is but as an atheist I do not believe in any god(s). They are merely a creation of man. And how does not believing in a god qualify into not believing in anything? There is much much more to life than the primitive belief in some kind of supreme being. You must have a very shallow and self centered life to put all of your belief into such a thing. My creators were my parents and I have much faith and belief in them. I for one find it extremely difficult to understand how an intelligent, rational, mature adult can read the bible and just blindly accept it as some sort of historical reference book.

You're wrong. "Athiest" isn't a word. "Atheist" means a person who does not believe in a deity.
I don't believe in God, or Zeus, or any other deity because there is no proof. Sorry if blind faith is your thing, but it's not mine. I don't think anyone created me. I follow SCIENCE.
Nothing happened that made me not believe, except maybe I started thinking logically. Noone created me. How am I hurting you? Why can't you just leave me the hell alone?

Atheism = A + theism = without god beliefs
I am an atheist. It means I do not have any god beliefs.
This does not mean I believe in nothing. It only means I do not have any god beliefs.
As a case in point, I believe in truth, justice and loving my children.
I do not believe in gods because there is no evidence to support the existence of any god. There is no reason for you to be upset about this. If you want, you can present the evidence to support the existence of your god to me at any time.
Nothing has happened to me to make me not believe, except the use of my reasoning capacity and a general education.
Good luck to you in your path in life.

No it doesn't mean that I don't believe in nothing. I believe that it is my responsibility as a HUMAN to do what is right and just. It doesn't mean that I don't have morals or manners. I just don't need a god telling me instructing me on how to do things.
I don't believe in god because when I was Catholic and my parents got divorced, my church completely abandoned me. I was only 8 years old. How could he let people be so cruel and vicious to me? I would love to know where god was to help me. He wasn't.
You know what upsets me? To meet people so close-minded and stuck in their ways. My parents created me. Not a god.

Everyone is born without belief. People only learn to believe when they're programmed to do so by parents or peers. That's why beliefs vary so much by geography and culture.
You make it sound like everybody is born a pious Christian and the only way you stop believing is if something happens to you. That's not correct. Think about it.
