It was nothing less than a miracle.I surprised my wife, I got my drivers license at 5 p.m. on New Years Eve when we were home, since it was the Capital everything was expedited. I packed her in the car and then didn't bother to get another driver. (I had everything all planned, well planned, and over planned.) Amanda was born on March 20, the week before Holy week, our busiest time at seminary. I was with my wife the whole time until they took her to surgery after 13 hours (hard back labour) for a necessary C-section, and when my daughter came back to the nursery. They rolled her over on her tummy, she lifted herself up on her elbows and looked around (They're not supposed to be strong enough to do that!!!, but the rest were all boys. I think she was already checking.) After that rather full day,I went in to evensong, back at the seminary, and my classmates had put cigars with pink bows in the mouths of all the carved cherubs on the organ. I think the baby Jesus in the Della Robia over the Lady altar even got one (the Dean was NOT amused, or so he said). She was the first birth in our class my first year in seminary, a very close and loving community. She had many laps to sit on. I think it was part of how she ended up with her doctorate, her first words were complete sentences. My grandchildren are getting the same treatment in the college community where their parents teach. Wish you could see them, they're beautiful. With each of these births I've had the childhood I grew up without. Each day with my girls was special. When they started school, I walked them and we talked on the way. My wife is small, so both ours had to come C-section. My lifestyle as a rural priest meant much more involvement with my kids than many fathers.

[Just for fun, I put my favourite picture of my two year old grandson as my avatar pic. He's Amanda's boy, born on St. Patrick's Day. so we added Patrick to his name Andrew Marshall, in honour of his Grandma Patricia and second cousin Patrick as well as descendent of Chief Justice John Marshall. You can see I'm not really prejudiced when I say beautiful! The other boy, Connor James is equally striking with wisps of brown hair that fall across his sapphire blue eyes. Katie, the eldest resembles her grandmother in so many ways, she has a mass of curls which are golden against her hazel eyes and the expressive looks she uses in place of words. Each one different, each one precious. And Grandad bursts the buttons on his chest!!!]

:=) Very cool, with my second daughter I was in the hot tub with mama and I was the first face my little girl saw... she and I have a bond like no other...

The first time I was nervous, but very happy, I am also very close with my first one too, I can't really compare it to anything, and words are inadequate to describe the joy honestly...

Moon,
LOL - scared. So scared I went out and started researching college funds - the day my son got his SSN - I enrolled him in the plan. One decision I will never regret - though I am still scared! LOL!

Well, I'd be shocked since I'm female and that's scientifically impossible but, hey, interesting question.
