I had Gastric Bypass Surgery 18 months ago and went from 282 lbs to 125lbs! I have hanging skin issues and it is very humiliating. I walk around in the summer in longer sleeve tops and jeans! I won't wear a bathing suit! I am very healthy but very miserable! I feel they have left me half done!! I have no rashes or sores or anything and my insurance company won't help me! Can anyone please give me some advice on where to turn! It would be greatly appreciated! I am very depressed and discouraged!

Health insurance generally will not cover it. Your doctor cannot write that it is medically necessary because it isn't. It is cosmetic. Just like women who have loose skin on their stomach after childbirth. Sooo...you will have to pay for it yourself. There are a ton of plastic surgery loans though. I have found that most cosmetic surgeons offer financing through capital one.

If the procedure is explicitly excluded from coverage, it makes no difference if it is medically necessary or not. The policy simply doesn't cover it. It's not unusual for insurers to exclude certain high cost surgeries/treatments from coverage, as a means of keeping monthly insurance premiums more reasonable. I don't mean to sound harsh here, but if gastric bypass will work for your mother, so will a strict diet on her part, combined with exercise. The net result of gastric bypass surgery is to limit the amount of nutrients absorbed by the intestine, along with limiting the amount of food intake. If she does this on her own without the surgery, she will undergo weight loss, without the potential complications from gastric bypass surgery.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass surgery have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as Bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

2 answers...... 1) if you can get your doctor to write a letter to the insurance company stating that it is an medical necessity it might pass. it is their job to pay for things that keep you from getting sick, or ending that sickness. if your doctor is willing to write down why all that extra skin is a danger to your future health, they might cover it.
2) sue them. again....... it is their job to pay for stuff that keeps you well. obvioulsy having all that skin has potential risks to your health.

this is one of the many things doctors never tell their patients about. insurance companies don't like to pay for it because the plastic surgery is mosr expensive than the bypass surgery.

In the mood for a new hot meal? Make a huge pot of veggie bean soup, divide into two-cup containers, and store inside freezer. Before bed, place a container inside fridge, then grab it before heading out the door each morning.

It’s an age old trick but vertical stripes really do stretch you out. The contrast of colour straight along splits your body in 50 %.

Don’t focus on your weaknesses, spotlight your best bits. Small waist? Belt it in. Gorgeous bust? Lower the neckline. Well toned butt? Rock tight jeans. Hot legs? Show ‘em off. It’s really that easy.
