He was talking about weddings... the last table at the back should get to go to the buffet line first, and the first (or head)table last, but that's not how it works. I should think Jesus is pretty unhappy that something He said is not being followed.

This is why you need to take Scripture in context. The last (those less fortunate) shall go first (finally be at the head of the line, STS), and the first (those who are now at the head of the line money-wise etc.) shall go last. There's more context, but that's the gist.

He was emphasizing the need for people to be humble. Those who put themselves first or ahead of others would be then considered last, and those who displayed the desirable quality of humility would be considered first.

Have you read the entire story? It's in Matthew's gospel, chapter 20 and the first several verses, but back up a verse or two in chapter 19 to get the context. Then we can talk about it.

The statement is about egoism. If a person believes themselves to be more deserving than another, more righteous than another, or a true believer above others than they will most definitely have everyone else that they place themselves above entering the kingdom ahead of them.
