Artificial iris (permanent colored contacts), is it possible?
Ok so I was wondering if there is a way to change the color of an iris, I'm curious I have blue green eye's and am happy with them but I was wondering if there is a way to implant colored contacs in the eye that may give the color a more real effect rather than normal contacts I found this website so can it actually be done (if you give them the money and if it actually can be done),would it be a very risky procedure could you go blind?

First off the FDA has not approved ICL (implantable contact lenses) and they only have a range of prescription that certain patients are candidates for. However with LASIK you only have to be 18 and the consultations are free and cost half of the price. ICLs are only meant for patients who cant not be correctable with lasik. I would never advise a patient of your age to even think about doing this procedure. I have been in the lasik industry for several years and very well trained on all refractive errors. Please...please only consider ICL as a last resort so so many risks are involved and again the FDA has not approved it. And no you can not get color lens. The visit is same day but much much riskier. Lasik will give you the same results and much faster and half the price. Good Luck

The implantable iris is intended to provide an iris for patients who were born with major iris defects or who suffered damage from trauma or other surgery. It is not intended as a cosmetic device to change eye colour.

Any intraocular surgery carries risk and yes, a percentage of cases will lose sight and possible go blind.

You will have to do what you think is best. But you know that falls into the catagory of " just because a thing can be done should it" ? I see in todays world so many dissatified with so much, one of lifes p;easures is being satified with who you are and how you look. After all you are the one making a judgement on your own body.Myself I would be asking why I would even consider such a thing. Then go from there. The eyes are such a precious thing,it is not worthwhile to do anything that may result in blindness, barring an accident of course, that you would have no control over.I am not making a judgement just asking you to consider how important such a thing is to you and use caution.God bless.

My Dad has an artificial iris, but it was used in context with an cornea transplant. Yes, it is risky, but since he lost his iris in the course of the transplant, there was not a choice.

I know they have an artifical lens now that is implanted into the eye.. but why would you risk your eyesight just cause you want to change your eye color?

This is a frivolous cosmetic surgery that would have a HIGH RISK to your vision. So can they do it? Probably. Will you find a surgeon who will do it? Doubtful.
No self respecting surgeon would perform this procedure. To high risk.
